Bruno Petkovic undoubtedly received the strangest red card of his career on Wednesday night. In the 1961 game against Instra (0-2), the 27-year-old attacker from Dinamo Zagreb was presented with his second yellow print immediately after using a penalty kick. Petkovic brought goalkeeper Gonzalo Callao out of position with a fake run-up, for which the striker was immediately penalized. His penalty kick didn’t count.

With a 0-1 score in the 89th minute, Petkovic was allowed to score for the penalty. Immediately after the ball was in the net behind the tricked Callao, referee Duje Strukan drew the fatal yellow card. Petkovic often takes penalties in this way, but has never been penalized for it. Due to the attacker’s red card, Dinamo Zagreb played out the remainder of the game with nine men: Kévin-Théopile-Catherine had previously had to clear the field because of his second yellow card.

The home team was already ten at the time of Petkovic’s penalty kick. This was even the result of: first goalkeeper Ivan Lucic of Istra had immediately left with a red card because of the cause. Despite Petkovic’s penalty being disallowed, Dinamo Zagreb made it 0-2 in the end. Stefan Ristovski put the final score on the scoreboard at the suggestion of the new substitute Deni Juric. With the home team, Ajax mercenary Hassana Bandé was on the field for the entire match and former sc Heerenveen and FC Groningen player Gonzalo García is head coach.
