Atalanta have made a big mistake when designing a special Christmas shirt for the last game of the calendar year against AS Roma. The club of Teun Koopmeiners and Marten de Roon added several new elements to the usual shirt, including an image of a small Christmas tree and a reference to the ‘Christmas Match’ against Roma on the sleeve. Atalanta also wanted to add a silhouette of Bergamo’s skyline, but turns out to have depicted the skyline of Turin.

It has been Atalanta’s tradition for twelve years to wear a special shirt in the last game of the calendar year. The shirts worn will be auctioned after the game for charity: the proceeds will benefit the children’s ward of a hospital in Bergamo. The shirts are also for sale in the fanstore and online from Thursday. However, it is questionable whether all Atalanta fans want to be seen in the shirt, because the skyline of Turin is on it.

Supporters soon noticed that the skyline features the Mole Antonelliana, a famous Turin building that also features on the reverse of Italy’s two-cent coin. This is where Bergamo’s Città Alta should have been. Supporters speak on social media of an ‘unforgivable mistake’ by the designers, especially because Juventus is a competitor. It remains to be seen whether the shirts will be worn ‘normally’ against Roma on Saturday.
