The cup match against FC Twente has produced even more bad news for Feyenoord. Arne Slot’s team not only lost after extra time, but also lost Gernot Trauner. The defender suffered from physical discomfort in the first half and was substituted in the break. According to trainer Slot, Trauner is currently ‘a big question mark for De Classic’, which will be played in De Kuip on Sunday.

Trauner took a long-range shot in minute 37, but his effort didn’t come close to Lars Unnerstall’s goal. However, the Austrian injured himself in the action. In the break he was replaced by Marcus Pedersen, which moved Lutsharel Geertruida to the center of the defence. “I don’t know how serious it is, but it will be exciting whether he will make it on Sunday,” Slot says afterwards ESPN.

Trauner is a regular customer in Slot’s team. He completed 90 minutes in all games in the Eredivisie this season, apart from the game against Fortuna Sittard (5-0 win) on December 5, when he was missing due to an unknown injury. That injury also kept Trauner aside four days later in the Conference League game against Maccabi Haifa (2-1 win). He was then in the Eredivisie against FC Groningen (1-1) again within the lines for the entire match.

Slot calls Trauner’s imminent absence ‘annoying’. “But if you play a long season with a lot of games, like we do, you know that someone can lose weight. I assume that could be Gernot Trauner on Sunday. But then we have other guys who have to solve it. ” Feyenoord has remained reasonably free from serious injuries this season. At the moment, in addition to Trauner, only defender Denzell Hall is not available.
