Vitesse has qualified for the eighth final of the TOTO KNVB Cup at the expense of Sparta Rotterdam. The team of coach Thomas Letsch cleared a 0-1 deficit, due to a mistake by Riechedly Bazoer, and eventually won 2-1. Nikolai Baden Frederiksen was the great hero on the Arnhem side with two fabulous goals. RKC Waalwijk, which also started the second round in the cup tournament at 6 p.m., had little trouble with the amateurs of Harkemase Boys on Frisian soil: 0-5.

Vitesse – Sparta Rotterdam 2-1
In a cup match with the necessary yellow cards, Vitesse did not have the desired start. After more than half an hour of play in Arnhem, Bazoer Vito van Crooij fell down in the penalty area, so that referee Rob Dieperink had no choice but to put the ball on the spot. Van Crooij himself went behind the ball and left Sparta goalkeeper Tim Coremans without a chance with a slider in the bottom left corner. Vitesse straightened out and managed to equalize in GelreDome before the halftime signal. Coremans had no chance at all on a free kick by Baden Frederiksen in the 42nd minute. The ball seemed to change direction somewhat on the way, although there was no Sparta player on it, so that the keeper of the Rotterdam club was unable to make a save.

After the break, Vitesse went on the hunt for the winning goal against the team that will meet it on Saturday evening in the Eredivisie. However, it took some time before stiff Sparta gave in. Lois Openda and Maximilian Wittek did not give up in a promising position in the second half. The extension already started to beckon in the final phase, but Baden Frederiksen had other plans. The attacker hired from Juventus was accurate with a beautiful ball behind the standing leg. The ball disappeared through the inside of the post past the hopeless Coremans into the goal. After the sledgehammer blow in the eightieth minute, Sparta was no longer able to force an extension, as a result of which the cup tournament ends in the second round.

Harkemase Boys – RKC Waalwijk 0-5
In the final phase of the first half, RKC, which had a clear predominance, finally made the opening goal. Where his teammates were rather sloppy in the completion, Yassin Oukili finally broke the spell in the 41st minute: 0-1. Even before the halftime signal, the visitors from Waalwijk seemed to have finally won the cup meeting in Harkema. Finn Stokkers was accurate with a header, so that RKC started the rest in Friesland with a feeling of relief.

After more than an hour of playing, all tension had disappeared in Harkema. Stokkers took advantage of the stumbling block in the defense of the home team and the attacker then signed for the third RKC goal in a controlled manner. With that, the resistance of Harkemase Boys had definitively disappeared. RKC played the cup match calmly and managed to score twice in the final phase via Thierry Lutonda and Saïd Bakari. With the easy win in their pocket, the team from Waalwijk can prepare for the home game against leader PSV on Saturday evening.
