Sergio Aguero (33) is forced to end his football career due to heart complaints, the Argentine striker announced on Wednesday at a specially convened press conference in Barcelona. Fabrizio Romano, among others, already reported this week that the final farewell to Aguero had become inevitable due to the physical problems.

Aguero was replaced on October 30 in Barcelona’s home game against Deportivo Alavés (1-1) just before half-time. The attacker grabbed his chest and neck in the 41st minute while lying on the field, and appeared to have breathing problems. After an examination in the dressing room by the Barcelona medical staff, it was decided to take the attacker to hospital.

The veteran underwent a heart examination a day later, of which Barcelona released the results. “Sergio Agüero should be subjected to diagnostic and therapeutic treatment conducted by Dr. Joseph Brugada. He will therefore not be available for the next three months. Within that period, the effectiveness of the treatment must be determined to determine his recovery process,” Barcelona said in an official statement. As a teenager, Agüero already suffered from cardiac arrhythmias, but later did not suffer from it anymore. Due to recent heart problems, the Argentine attacker is now forced to put an end to his football career.

Sergio Aguero suffered a heart attack on October 30 and was out of action for Barcelona after that.

Agüero made his professional football debut in 2004 at the age of fifteen in the shirt of Independiente. He later played five successful seasons for Atlético Madrid. In 230 games for los Colchoneros he was good for 100 goals. It earned the Argentine attacker a transfer to Manchester City in 2011, where he has continued his goal drive for the past ten years. In the shirt of the leader in the Premier League, Aguero scored 260 goals in 390 matches. He scored 41 goals in 101 games for the Argentina national team. Only Lionel Messi and Gabriel Batistuta managed to find the net more often la Albiceleste.

Due to the heart problems, Agüero’s adventure at Barcelona was not a success. He scored his first and only goal for the Catalans on October 24, in el Clásico against Real Madrid (1-2 loss). In total, he came to only five duels for the Catalan superpower. The attacker says goodbye to football with an impressive record. He became Olympic champion with Argentina and he twice won the World Under 20 Championship. Last summer Agüero also conquered the Copa América with the national team. With Manchester City he won five Premier League titles and six times the League Cup.
