Nicolás Otamendi was violently robbed at home on Sunday evening. The Benfica centre-back had just returned from the game against Famalicão (1-4 win), when he was attacked at the front door by four men. Even before he got out of his car, the robbers forced Otamendi to let him in. The Argentinian’s wife and two children were at home. Benfica has confirmed the news through its official channels, and the club has also indicated that the family was not physically injured.

Mundo Deportivo will release details about the violent robbery on Monday evening. The sports newspaper reports that four individuals intercepted the Argentina international’s car just as he was about to enter his garage. There, they tied a belt around his neck and the robbers forced him inside with them, while his wife and two young children were inside.

The three would have immediately panicked, but in the end the physical damage was limited. The robbers took money and several watches from Otamendi’s luxury collection, without attacking the family. The news about the robbery is confirmed by Benfica. “Benfica confirms that his player Nico Otamendi was the victim of a robbery at his home during the night. The player and his family are doing well, despite the enormous shock that the situation entails.”

In the Netherlands, too, people were startled by a robbery. Eran Zahavi has been the victim of another burglary, reported RTL Boulevard Sunday night. The family of the PSV attacker also had to deal with an armed robbery earlier this year, when Zahavi was not at home himself. This time, none of the family was home during the break-in. When asked, the Amsterdam police confirm that it is the same house in the Buitenveldert district.
