The analysts of Studio Football are not impressed by Marcos Senesi. Sunday evening’s broadcast zooms in on the role of the defender of Feyenoord in the equalizer of FC Groningen in the mutual match (1-1). Theo Janssen comes to the harsh judgment that Senesi ‘cannot defend at all’ and is ‘incredibly slow’, while Arno Vermeulen would be surprised if Feyenoord still got the top prize for the Argentinian.

Senesi was in the spotlight of foreign clubs last summer, but Feyenoord rejected several bids for the Argentine defender at the time. “In Rotterdam they sometimes have lists of players’ amounts, which they expect to earn in the coming years,” says Vermeulen. “Senesi has also been quite high on that list, but that is not going to happen.” The defender was to blame for the equalizer of Jörgen Strand Larsen in Feyenoord’s 1-1 draw against FC Groningen. Senesi was run out by the striker of the with a deep ball from Lerin Duarte Pride of the North.

“They also see these kinds of images abroad,” continues the football chief of the NOS. “Defensively he is quite slow, he certainly does not turn easily. No, that is not a player who will bring Feyenoord fifteen million euros, or ten million euros. If that ever becomes five million euros, you can squeeze your hands shut. Then he also has to play in a system with a five-man defense or in a competition where you hang your ass in the sixteen.”

Senesi also struck Ibrahim Afellay in a negative way against FC Groningen on Sunday. “Senesi is often praised for his qualities on the ball, but moments like the goal against Jörgen Strand Larsen happen to him very often,” says the analyst. “He doesn’t know where the ball is going to fall and he is also very short in terms of speed.” Janssen can agree with Afellay’s words. “He is regularly criticized quite regularly, isn’t he? But he just absolutely cannot defend, he shows that again in that goal against. Ultimately, you will be judged on your defensive interceptions. He’s just really slow, you know. If he has to turn, that’s the same as I turn, that takes an hour. Then the rush hour is long gone.”
