Noni Madueke suffered a new hamstring injury on Thursday evening. The nineteen-year-old right winger of PSV came in against Real Sociedad in the second half and sat down on the grass barely six minutes later. Madueke immediately made the switch and was relieved by Yorbe Vertessen.

The new injury will come as a huge blow to Madueke, who has suffered a similar injury twice before this season. The wing striker had a great start to the season, in which he mainly excelled in the preliminary round of the Champions League. On September 22, the Englishman went wrong for the first time in the away game against Go Ahead Eagles (1-2 win), who then had to miss four games.

After that, Madueke was only able to play in two games: at the end of October he had to go through another rehabilitation period, which this time lasted a lot longer. Last Saturday, Madueke returned after nine missed matches with a short substitute against FC Utrecht (4-1 win). “I’m glad I’m back now. Now on to the next game,” he said afterwards ESPN.

“After so many times you start to doubt your body, but this is part of football,” Madueke said on Saturday. “I had to go back and make sure I came back in a good way. No more injuries and certainly not the hamstring. I have adjusted my program, my recovery too. Especially in terms of intensity. I am back now and it feels better than it ever was.”
