Bayern Munich can no longer rely on Joshua Kimmich for the remainder of the calendar year. The midfielder recently struggled with the corona virus and as a result still has lung problems, which means that his recovery is taking more time. Bayern will play three more matches in the final weeks of 2021.

For Bayern, meetings with FSV Mainz 05 (December 11), VfB Stuttgart (December 14) and VfL Wolfsburg (December 17) are still waiting until the first half of the season is over. In any case, Kimmich will not take action. “I am happy that my quarantine has now come to an end,” Kimmich said on the Bayern website. “I am doing well, but due to some lung problems I am not yet able to fully train. So I will now start recovery training and can’t wait to get back into action in January.”

Kimmich has openly stated that he has not been vaccinated against the corona virus. As a result, he had to be quarantined twice in November after he had been in contact with an infected person. He was also tested positive for the coronavirus himself. As a result, Kimmich has now had to miss five official Bayern matches, a number that will increase to eight. BILD Earlier reported that Bayern would not pay its unvaccinated players a salary when they were in quarantine.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting also tested positive for the corona virus earlier. The striker – who is also known to have not been vaccinated – is still struggling with the after-effects of the infection and is therefore unable to train fully, just like Kimmich. Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala – who, like Kimmich and Choupo-Moting, belonged to the unvaccinated group within the Bayern selection – have had the vaccination yet, while Michaël Cuisance, according to BILD still considering doing that.
