The cup match of Ajax against the amateurs of Barendrecht will still be broadcast live on Wednesday December 15 at ESPN, the pay channel communicates. Initially, it was decided to broadcast six of the sixteen games in the battle for the TOTO KNVB Cup, but there are now at least fourteen. ESPN is looking at the possibility of also getting the last two games live on television.

It is common for ESPN to broadcast only six out of sixteen matches live at this stage of the cup. The fact that Ajax was excluded this time has led to a lot of commotion on social media in recent days. Due to the corona measures, supporters are also not welcome in the stadium, so that fans could not follow the game directly in any way. “In this way, during a period when there is no audience in the stadium, as many people as possible can watch the cup matches of their favorite club,” ESPN explains.

To make the extra live broadcasts possible, ESPN has received cooperation from municipalities, clubs and the KNVB. For example, the Ajax match has been moved from 8.15 p.m. to 9 p.m. ESPN: “These match changes are easier to implement as unfortunately there cannot be an audience at these matches. Some matches have been given the starting time of 6 p.m., so that there is no overlap with the later games in the event of extra time and penalties. The only two matches that will not be broadcast for the time being are Harkemase Boys – RKC Waalwijk and Excelsior – FC Groningen.

The second round of the cup tournament results in a few Eredivisie meetings. For example, FC Twente – Feyenoord, AZ – Heracles Almelo and PSV – Fortuna Sittard are on the program. The cup round will be kicked off on Tuesday, December 14 at 6 p.m. by ADO Den Haag and the amateurs of Gemert. After sc Heerenveen – De Treffers on Thursday, December 16, it will be announced which sixteen teams will continue in the cup tournament after the winter break.
