Ajax is officially working on the arrival of Steven Bergwijn, report The Telegraph and Football International. Marc Overmars has expressed the interest of the team from Amsterdam for the 24-year-old wing striker at Tottenham Hotspur.

The interest of Ajax in Bergwijn is related to the possible departure of David Neres. The Brazilian, who scored against Sporting Portugal (4-2 win) on Tuesday, is allowed to leave Amsterdam. A transfer did not get off the ground last summer, but Ajax is seriously taking into account that this will happen in the winter transfer period.

Tottenham will have eight more games to decide on Bergwijn’s near future, reported The Times Monday. The renowned British newspaper expects the club management to look at Antonio Conte’s plans with the the Dutch international until January 1, 2022. For the time being, Italian manager Bergwijn allowed only fifteen minutes to play in six games. Lucas Moura is invariably favored on the right side of the attack.

Bergwijn was born in Amsterdam and played in the youth of Ajax for six years. At the age of thirteen he made the switch to the PSV academy. There, the winger managed to break through in the first team in 2014. In January 2020, Bergwijn switched to Tottenham Hotspur, which transferred an amount of thirty million euros to PSV. In London, after almost two calendar years, Bergwijn is on 62 official duels, in which he was good for 4 goals and 9 assists.
