Roger Schmidt will finish this season at PSV, according to the trainer Eindhovens Dagblad and Football International private. RB Leipzig approached Schmidt in recent days, but the German does not want to leave Eindhoven in the meantime. Schmidt will in any case serve out his contract with PSV, which runs until mid-2022. If the people of Eindhoven want to extend that, Schmidt will make a hard demand about more investments, it sounds like.

Schmidt could have become the successor to the fired Jesse Marsch at Leipzig, but remains loyal to PSV. That is good news for the people of Eindhoven, who have been having exploratory talks with the coach about a new contract for some time. According to Football International the decision whether PSV actually wants to continue with Schmidt will not be taken until the winter break. If that happens, the Noord-Brabants will first have to convince the coach of a longer stay.

Last summer PSV sold two of its star players with Denzel Dumfries and Donyell Malen. In total, more than fifty million euros in sold players were brought in, while only six million euros was reinvested in the selection. PSV expresses the ambition to attack Ajax, but in the eyes of Schmidt does not fully convert that into financial deeds. The coach has said publicly several times that the chance of Ajax becoming champion is about 80/20 in favor of the team from Amsterdam.

PSV raised an investment of around fifty million euros in the spring, with the promise that part of it would be put in the player selection. Schmidt has not noticed much of this and hopes that PSV will invest heavily in the next transfer summer. If it is up to the German, the club is fully committed to top talents between the ages of 19 and 23: players who have already shown themselves at the highest level and who can develop into top players under Schmidt’s wing.
