Mike Verweij expects Noussair Mazraoui to leave Ajax next summer. The right back will run out of his contract with the team from Amsterdam at the end of this season and negotiations about an extension have been broken for some time. Verweij reveals that Mazraoui even demanded the same salary as then teammate Hakim Ziyech in the past.

Ajax’s club watcher reveals in the podcast Kick-Off by The Telegraph a history of contract negotiations. “Mazraoui initially had the same agent as Ziyech (Mustapha Nakli, ed.). So he also wanted to earn about the same. Then Ajax said: ‘But you are not worth five million a year. And not four. And not three.’” The right back of the team from Amsterdam recently broke with Nakli and switched to Mino Raiola, Verweij reported at the beginning of September.

Verweij would do everything he could to keep Mazraoui on board. “I think they are very wise by giving him a good salary. If you can tie it longer, it has residual value. It is still a young player (24 years, ed.). He has played less than he would have liked due to injuries in the past. Than Ajax was sweet. You will eventually get that salary back, otherwise he will now walk out the door on a free transfer.”

Mazraoui himself recently let in the program With Andy in the car know that he is still “in full talks” with the club, but that reaching an agreement on an extension “will become more difficult” as time goes on. He also indicated to director of football affairs Marc Overmars that he was ‘open to a departure’. The Moroccan international is reportedly in the strong interest of Arsenal, Manchester City and Napoli, among others.
