The sixth and final day of play in Group G of the Champions League will be the deciding factor. Sevilla was a size too big for VfL Wolfsburg (2-0) on Tuesday evening, while Lille OSC only needed a single goal to defeat Red Bull Salzburg (1-0). This means that all teams still have a chance of wintering in the Champions League, as the differences are a maximum of three points. Lille leads the dance with eight points and awaits a duel with Wolfsburg, which is the number last with five points. Salzburg, seven points, and Sevilla, six points, are each other’s opponents in Austria.

Sevilla – VfL Wolfsburg 2-0
Lopetegui’s team got off to a strong start and got some opportunities through Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gómez and Jules Koundé. After twelve minutes of play it was still hit: after a measured cross from Ivan Rakitic from the right towards the mouth of the goal, it was Joan Jordán who headed the ball in from close range. Wolfsburg disappoints in particular offensively and did not get further than a bet from Lukas Nmecha, who saw how the ball hit the crossbar via Yassine Bounou’s hand.

For the remainder of the evening, Sevilla cherished that important lead. Lopetegui’s side is also hard to pass in LaLiga, with the second least passed defense, and kept things closed. Deep into extra time, Rafa Mir made it 2-0. Wout Weghorst played the entire match, while Micky van de Ven stayed on the bench. Karim Rekik came on just before the second goal for Sevilla.

Lille OSC – Red Bull Salzburg 1-0
In the first half, the chances were endless. The best chance for the visit went to Andreas Ulmer, who saw goalkeeper Ivo Grbic turn his low bet. After half an hour of play, it was hit on the other side of the field. Burak Yilmaz made his way into the penalty area and it was David who finally got the ball in front of his feet and shot it from close range behind Philipp Kohn: 1-0. That was also the final score in Northern France and thus the direct hit of the Ligue 1 top scorer was decisive.
