Bayern Munich remain unapproachable in the Champions League. Julian Nagelsmann’s team was 1-2 too strong for Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday evening thanks to goals from Robert Lewandowski and Kingsley Coman. It was already his ninth (!) goal for the Pole so far in this Champions League campaign. Bayern, which has the full loot in Group E with fifteen points from five matches, will close the group stage in two weeks at home against Barcelona. Dynamo then plays against Benfica and hopes to disappear from the European stage by more than one point.

Bayern laid the foundation for the win in the NSK Olimpiejsky in Kiev in the first half. A beautiful goal from Lewandowski broke the spell after less than fifteen minutes of play. Illya Zabarnyi did not clear a pass from Benjamin Pavard well in the penalty area, after which Lewandowski worked the leather with a nice overhead kick behind goalkeeper Georgiy Bushchan. Dynamo did not play a bad first half, regularly appeared dangerously in front of Bayern’s goal area and, thanks to a mistake by Manuel Neuer, almost made it to 1-1. He finally kicked over a back pass from Leon Goretzka, but the left post saved.

A well-played attack by Bayern led the 0-2 of . a few minutes before half-time of the Rekordmeister in. After a pass from Corentin Tolisso and a handy transfer from Thomas Müller, it was Coman who drove the ball high from the right side of the penalty area and through the bottom of the bar against the ropes: 0-2. In the first minutes after the break, the intentions of the home team became clear, to force a connecting goal as quickly as possible, but Neuer kept Bayern going. A touched effort by Mykola Shaparenko was turned by the goalkeeper and so was the rebound from the midfielder.

Bayern had the game more under control after an hour of play, but Mircea Lucescu’s team still managed to bring the tension back. More than twenty minutes before the end, Dynamo set up a counterattack and it was Denys Garmash who aimed the ball low past Neuer from close range: 1-2. The home team increased the pace and a few minutes later already had the prospect of an equalizer. A shot by Sergiy Sydorchuk from the edge of the penalty area could be worked to the side by Neuer.

A few minutes later, it was Viktor Tsygankov who tried to avert defeat: the winger’s shot went just wide of Neuer’s goal. In the end an equalizer failed to materialize. Bayern will be back in action next Saturday: then it will be the home game with low-flyer Arminia Bielefeld.
