The analysts of Studio Football enjoyed Antony’s performance against RKC Waalwijk on Sunday. The Ajax attacker was not directly involved in any goals during the 0-5 victory, but did impress with his frivolous actions on the right wing. Ibrahim Afellay, Pierre van Hooijdonk and Rafael van der Vaart praise Antony’s speed and technical qualities on Sunday evening.

“Ajax was as usual again, it swung in all directions”, Afellay opens in the broadcast. “RKC has also tried to defend with many people, but in this form Ajax plays everyone to smithereens. Antony was once again the man of the match. The security on the sides – Blind with Tadic and Antony with Mazraoui – there is so much football in it . You enjoy that.” The rocker with which Antony tricked defender Luuk Wouters is highlighted in particular.

“Normally you come to the stadium for this, but luckily football is still broadcast on TV so you can enjoy this. These kind of players are a feast for the eyes,” says Afellay upon seeing the images. “He makes the craziness of football functional”, Van Hooijdonk adds. “It’s not just a showman.” Rafael van der Vaart notes that Antony is ‘terribly fast’ on the first few meters. “As a back, that drives you crazy. Because that lob, that’s not really possible.”

After the victory, trainer Erik ten Hag stated that Antony made progress. “He has to be on not only in very big games, but also in these kinds of games. That has been different, but that applies to multiple players. They just have to deliver every game. It can’t be that he shows it alone in the Champions League and against PSV. He has to show it in other matches too. He is also not paid half.” Van Hooijdonk does not agree with those statements. “I think that’s a bit nonsense. Ten Hag was also a footballer himself? Then you know that it can’t always be great, right?”
