AS Roma has booked a victory in the Serie A on Sunday evening on a visit to Genoa. Eighteen-year-old Felix Afena-Gyan gave Jose Mourinho’s team a 0-2 victory with two late goals. The young Ghanaian scored his first league goals and became the first player of the year 2003 to score in Serie A. The victory puts Roma in fifth place with 22 points from 13 matches. Genoa, with new trainer Andriy Shevchenko at the helm for the first time, remains eighteenth.

Roma, with Rick Karsdorp in the starting line-up, failed to create great opportunities in the opening phase, just like the home team. After just under fifteen minutes, the Romans seemed to take the lead almost out of nowhere. The ball fell at the feet of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who did not hesitate and fired the ball convincingly from the edge of the box into the right corner. The attacking midfielder’s attempt was only deflected by Tammy Abraham’s hand, which meant that the party for the visitors was canceled.

With half an hour on the clock, Roma still had the chance to take the lead. Stephan El Shaarawy brought Eldor Shomurodov into position, but the attacker shot wildly over the goal from within the box. The team of coach Mourinho showed itself twice immediately after the break. Mkhitaryan first saw a shot go over the bar, after which Shomurodov was stopped from scoring by a strong intervention by Davide Biraschi. The match then continued for a long time. Both teams turned out to be mainly attackingly impotent in the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Twenty minutes before the end, Genoa had the perfect opportunity to open the score. Johan Vásquez gave a perfect pass to Stefano Sturaro, who had the ball from two meters before the tap. However, El Shaarawy made it difficult enough for the midfielder to stop him from scoring. Ten minutes before the end, Roma managed to break the spell. Mkhitaryan crossed the entire midfield and gave the ball wide to Afena-Gyan. The substitute teenager remained cool and controlled the ball behind Salvatore Sirigu: 0-1. The game was also closed by Afena-Gyan well into stoppage time. The attacker scored from outside the box with a shot into the top corner: 0-2.
