The United States won 2-0 against Mexico in the night from Friday to Saturday in the context of the World Cup qualifier. Going through goals from Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie Team USA now leading the qualifying cycle, with the same number of points but a better goal difference than Mexico. Canada also did good business by beating Costa Rica 1-0.
In an intense game, it was Mexico that often had possession of the ball, but the home side got the opportunities. At a 0-0 score, Pulisic came in twenty minutes before time. The Chelsea attacker has just recovered from an ankle injury and trainer Thomas Tuchel asked American national team coach Gregg Berhalter to deal with the American international calmly. Pulisic didn’t need his ankle to score five minutes after his substitution. He worked a cross from Timothy Weah’s right wing with the head behind Mexican keeper Guillermo Ochoa.

Before the match, the fire was stoked by Ochoa. The goalkeeper said that when Team USA look in the mirror, would like to see Mexico’s success in terms of trophies and World Cup entries. Pulisic not only answered with the goal, but also showed a message on his shirt after his goal: Man in the mirror. With just under five minutes left on the clock, the game was finally decided by McKennie. Ajax midfielder Edson Álvarez had just been substituted when the Juventus midfielder appeared in front of Ochoa’s goal and scored the 2-0.
Canada v Costa Rica 1-0
Canada continues to dream of participating in the World Cup. Costa Rica was sidelined 1-0 at home last night. Lille OSC forward Jonathan David scored the only goal of the game. Fifteen minutes after the break, Costa Rica keeper Leonel Moreira released the ball after a high cross, after which David was able to hit from close range. The victory brings Canada to thirteen points, good for third place in the ranking. Leaders United States and Mexico both have fourteen points with seven games to go.
