Clubs from the Eredivisie and the Kitchen Champion Division react with disappointment to the government’s announcement to ban the public from sports competitions. No supporters will be allowed in the stadiums for the next three weeks. Several clubs are behind the plan to resume competitions after the partial lockdown, so that supporters may be able to be present again.

Sparta Rotterdam, sc Heerenveen, NAC Breda and ADO Den Haag have already made it clear that they want to move the upcoming matches. Professional football clubs are currently investigating that option. “Sparta Rotterdam is in favor of moving these matches because in our view football should be played with supporters. The expectation is that more will become clear in the coming days about the feasibility of moving matches,” reports Sparta.

Many clubs are seriously questioning the cabinet’s decision. They agree with the statement published by the KNVB, in which frustration was expressed about the lack of substantiation in the making of this decision. “The public is now drawn to the matches for three weeks, while there are no demonstrable sources of contamination from the stadiums in professional football, as the KNVB also indicates. This makes the decision-making process difficult to understand,” says the KNVB. General director Pascal van Wijk, for example, on behalf of Vitesse.
