The Dutch professional clubs are not without a fight with the upcoming cabinet decision to no longer admit spectators, reports RTV East. Clubs from the Eredivisie and Keuken Kampioen Division are trying to start a lobby to change the outgoing cabinet.

The cabinet will probably announce on Friday evening at 7 p.m. that all football stadiums must remain empty for the next three weeks. The clubs are resisting this and have made some proposals to accommodate the cabinet. Options are: play before 6 p.m., no crowds, no alcohol and mandatory sitting. It is unclear how the clubs think they can maintain the latter option.

The KNVB lashed out at the outgoing cabinet on Friday morning because of the upcoming measures. “This looks like policy poverty, people in The Hague no longer know what to do,” can be read in the statement signed by Marianne van Leeuwen (KNVB), Jan de Jong (Eredivisie CV) and Marc Boele (Kitchen Champion). Division). Hundreds of matches have been played with the public since the first lockdown and not a single match has led to major corona outbreaks. This is also confirmed by the figures from the RIVM and the GGD,” they say.

Due to the new corona measures, the crucial World Cup qualifier between the the Dutch and Norway should normally be played in an empty stadium next Tuesday. “This match is very important for qualifying for next year’s World Cup and the home advantage with a home crowd would of course be a nice boost,” according to the KNVB. “That also applies to the clubs that play at home in the European competitions during this period. In addition, matches are planned in this period in the Kitchen Champion Division, Eredivisie and the Pure Energie Eredivisie Women.”
