The GOAL50 is back, but not in the way we know it. Our colleagues from Goal let the fans choose the best player and player of 2021 this year. The list of candidates competing to win the GOAL50 has a lot of new names this year.

In the past, the winners of the GOAL50 were chosen by a panel of experts from the 42 different editions of Goal. This year it is up to the visitors of the website to determine which player will win the title.
How exactly? Goal has put together two shortlists of the 50 best male and female footballers in the world. That list can be seen here. The visitor does not just vote for one specific player. If you open the list, you will see that two different players are placed against each other. It is up to the visitor to choose which of the two is preferred.

There are a total of 2,450 possible combinations of players that are pitted against each other. The man and woman with the most wins will be crowned GOAL50 winner of 2021.
