Roger Schmidt has announced PSV’s line-up for the match against AS Monaco. The trainer chooses Erick Gutiérrez as the basic player for the first time this season in the crucial Europa League match. Furthermore, Phillipp Mwene appears to be playing as a right midfielder for the first time, with Jordan Teze appearing as the right-back. The match starts at 6.45 pm at the Stade Louis II.

Schmidt cannot have five players in the ministate: Mario Götze (ill), Noni Madueke (hamstring), Ryan Thomas (knee), Cody Gakpo (ankle) and Davy Pröpper (ankle) are absent for various reasons. “We are missing five players and they are not the least,” Schmidt said beforehand. “They have all already shown how important they are for PSV.”

PSV lost the first leg in Eindhoven 1-2 to Monaco and are therefore not in a good position in Group B of the Europa League. The Eindhoven team is in third place, one and three points behind Real Sociedad and Monaco respectively. Sturm Graz is scoreless at the bottom. Prior to that, Schmidt indicated that a win for his team is necessary in Monaco. “It is a big and very important match,” said the German. “We are under pressure in the group and we want to keep wintering in this tournament in our own hands.”
