Wesley Sneijder is going to stop with his trainer training, the analyst reveals during the preview of the Champions League match between Borussia Dortmund and Ajax. The former midfielder says he is ‘not in line with the KNVB’ and has decided to break with the association for the time being.

“You announce it as a beautiful moment, but I certainly don’t think it’s beautiful”, Sneijder responds to RTL7 to the introduction by presenter Humberto Tan. “But I did not agree with the KNVB. And that’s a shame. I understand of course that I have to learn something, because I am not a trainer… But it is suggested that we ex-footballers have no experience at all, and that is of course nonsense. I’ve been through a lot of trainers, and I’ve really gained a bit of experience with that. Also how it should and should not be done.”

“This also allows me to see what type of trainer I will be myself in the future,” Sneijder continues. “I see myself much more as a manager than as a real field trainer. My wish was actually that I could get a piece of customization. So I wanted to get more guidance towards managing a team. But that did not fit the image of the KNVB. Then it becomes very difficult. So unfortunately we have said goodbye to each other for now.”

“How things are now, I will not continue at the KNVB. I don’t know how that will be in the future. I have to learn things that don’t really suit me. There I had a good conversation with Alfred Schreuder, who also indicated that the KNVB should provide more customization. It came up to me that I am more of a manager than a field trainer, but the KNVB does not want to participate in that. Its a shame, but there is nothing to do about it. I have 134 caps to my name, but I’ve never seen a passing practice with a rolling ball. I find that nonsense and laughable. I still want to become a trainer, but in a way that suits me best and that is, with all due respect, not with the amateurs, but higher up”, says Sneijder.
