All adults entering a sports complex must have a corona ticket from Saturday, Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Minister Hugo de Jonge confirmed on Tuesday evening at the cabinet press conference. For the time being, there are negative reactions to the announcement in football. The KNVB, together with sports umbrella organization NOC*NSF, calls on the House of Representatives to reverse the decision.

“The cabinet’s plans for amateur football are practically impracticable,” the KNVB said in a statement. “Volunteers are gold, but also scarce. Where are you going to get volunteers who will check QR codes seven days a week on all athletes and visitors at an accommodation? In other sectors, professionals work who can check visitors at the (only) entrance , we have volunteers who should do the same for a very open sports complex with often multiple entrances.”

The association therefore asks for understanding for amateur football. “Amateur football has moved along with all the corona measures, but this is just a bridge too far and cannot be enforced. The term for the measure to take effect next weekend is completely unfeasible. Will associations that cannot take this step (in time) receive a fine? It all leads to great unrest and puts a heavy burden on associations, volunteers and football players.”

Clubs meanwhile seem to fear an increase in the number of cancellations of members. For example, VV Katwijk chairman Mart Vergouwen fears that several teams will not have enough players from next weekend, that volunteers will not show up and that there are no people to check the QR codes. He believes that football players who have not been vaccinated are made impossible to play. “Some train three times a week and then have a game on Saturday. Do you really think they will be tested four times a week? Excluded,” the chairman of the Second Division leader told The Telegraph.
