Ajax has according to The Telegraph good hope of having Noussair Mazraoui against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday. The right back was missing last Saturday in the away match against Heracles Almelo (0-0) due to illness. However, he was back on the training field on Sunday and so he seems fit in time for the Champions League game.

The newspaper writes that it is not yet final that Mazraoui will travel to Dortmund, but that there is good hope that the back will play along. Last Saturday he was replaced in right back position by Devyne Rensch. “It’s just the flu. I don’t know how quickly that will recover, but if you refer to Wednesday, then I can’t say anything meaningful about it, but for now I’m positive about it,” said Ajax coach Erik ten Hag on Saturday evening. ESPN about Mazraoui.

Ten Hag has an almost completely fit selection against Dortmund, except for the long-term injured Sean Klaiber and Maarten Stekelenburg. André Onana will serve the last day of his suspension on Wednesday and may return to action when Ajax receives a visit from Go Ahead Eagles on Sunday. Edson Álvarez and Jurriën Timber have to watch out against Dortmund. When they receive a yellow card from referee Michael Oliver, they are suspended from the next group match against Besiktas.

After three matches, Ajax leads Group C with nine points. With a win over Dortmund, Ajax is already assured of qualification for the eighth finals. If Sporting Portugal does not beat Besiktas, then a draw will suffice for the team from Amsterdam. Dortmund must do it on their own field without the injured Erling Braut Haaland, Emre Can and Raphaël Guerreiro.
