Mitchel Bakker has an ankle injury from Saturday’s game between Bayer Leverkusen and VfL Wolfsburg (0-2). The left back will therefore be sidelined for approximately four weeks, Leverkusen announced on Monday afternoon. He is therefore also absent for the European Championship qualifiers of the Dutch Juniors against Bulgaria and Gibraltar this month.

Bakker played in eight of Leverkusen’s ten games this season, of which seven times as a basic player. He had a more attacking role against Wolfsburg than is normally the case. With an absence of a month, Bakker would miss the Europa League games against Real Betis (November 4) and Celtic (November 25), as well as the league matches with Hertha BSC (November 7), VfL Bochum (November 20) and RB Leipzig (28). November). The Dutch Juniors will play against Bulgaria’s peers on November 12, while a game against Jong Gibraltar will follow on November 15.

Bakker’s absence offers opportunities for Daley Sinkgraven in Leverkusen’s team. The former Ajax player made only three appearances in the Bundesliga this season and replaced Bakker twice. That was also the case on Saturday in the lost game against Wolfsburg, when Sinkgraven came in eight minutes before the end. With Jeremie Frimpong, a Dutchman was also lined up on the right flank in the team of trainer Gerardo Seoane. Timothy Fosu-Mensah has been missing from Bayer Leverkusen since March due to a torn cruciate ligament.
