The forty-year-old striker was allowed to build from a free kick, as a result of which the ball came to lie just outside the penalty area on the left. His devastating drive went through the wall in the far corner, behind goalkeeper Rui Patrício. It marked Ibrahimovic’s 400th goal in a domestic competition and his 150th goal in Serie A. He celebrated the goal with a gesture towards Roma fans, who called him a ‘Gypsy’. Ibrahimovic is said to have asked the supporters to sing louder after his goal and received a yellow card from referee Fabio Maresca.
Milan scored again before half time, after Leão skilfully flipped the ball over Patrício and headed it against the ropes. However, Ibrahimovic appeared to have been offside in the run-up to the beautiful goal, so that a line went through the goal. Shortly after the break, the arbitration again disallowed a goal from the visitors. Ibrahimovic controlled a long ball with his chest and placed the leather in the far corner formidably. After interference from the VAR, however, referee Maresca whistled for offside. Ibrahimovic then failed face to face with Patrício, before the ball hit the spot with 55 minutes left.
