Go Ahead Eagles defeated Fortuna Sittard in a spectacular way on Sunday evening. The team of coach Kees van Wonderen faced a 1-3 deficit after 55 minutes, but won the match 4-3 after an unparalleled second half. Just before time, Joris Kramer headed the winning goal behind Yanick van Osch. For the first time since May 1996, Go Ahead wins three Eredivisie matches in a row and now climbs to eighth place in the ranking.

Go Ahead Eagles started the game well, without actually becoming dangerous in front of Yanick van Osch’s goal. Fortuna had not yet reached Warner Hahn’s goal when Mats Seuntjens made the 0-1 out of nowhere after more than ten minutes of play. Zian Flemming saw the space behind the defense of Go Ahead Eagles and served Seuntjens with an excellent through ball, after which the latter worked the ball into the far corner via Hahn. It was again the number six goal of Seuntjens this Eredivisie season. Not long after, Flemming was again responsible for a goal from the visitors. He provided an assist to Ben Rienstra’s 0-2, who scored with a dry and hard bang.

On the other side of the field, the home team had several opportunities to score. The Spanish striker Marc Cardona Rovira had a big chance to head, but his sights were not sharp. Giannis Botos headed on top of the crossbar moments later. The best chances, however, were for the visitors from Limburg. Flemming was close to scoring in the closing stages of the first half. After two assists, he was not awarded a goal: his bet was taken off the line by Go Ahead defender Joris Kramer.

After tea, Go Ahead Eagles insisted in the hunt for the tie-in goal. The pressure on Fortuna Sittard’s rear guard grew and that led to the 1-2. Goalkeeper Yanick van Osch was completely wrong due to miscommunication with Ivo Pinto. The bumbling caused the ball to land at the feet of Luuk Brouwers, who scored on behalf of the home team. Fortuna Sittard’s answer was not long in coming. A corner kick was saved by Tesfaldet Tekie. The midfielder did not hesitate for a moment and brushed the ball hard into the intersection.

Supported by the fanatical home crowd, Kees van Wonderen’s team once again put their shoulders to the wheel. The Deventer’s urge to attack was rewarded with the 2-3 by Marc Cardona, who scored with the head from a high cross from the left wing of Ragnar Oratmangoen. Go Ahead Eagles felt there was more to it and kept attacking. The urge to attack was rewarded with the equalizer in the 82nd minute. A corner was headed wide by Gerrit Nauber, exactly where Inigo Córdoba was standing. The attacker worked the ball behind Van Osch: 3-3. It was already his fifth goal in eight Eredivisie matches for the Spaniard. In doing so, he follows in the footsteps of Jack de Gier, who in 1994 was the last Go Ahead player to need eight games for that number of goals.

It would be even better for the home team, because just before time it was Kramer who was in the right place to make the winning from a corner. In stoppage time, Fortuna Sittard was still looking for the equalizer, but despite the crossbar being hit twice, the Limburgers were unable to score and they returned home without points. As a result, it remains at nine points and thus sixteenth place in the Eredivisie ranking.
