Sergio Agüero is struggling with a heart rhythm disorder, according to El Pais from an initial diagnosis in hospital. The 33-year-old Barcelona striker was admitted there late on Saturday night after being substituted for Deportivo Alavés (1-1) due to chest pain. Agüero will remain in hospital for a few more days for observation.

Aguero lay down on the grass in the 41st minute of the home game, without any apparent reason. The Argentinian kept his hand on his chest and neck and was treated for minutes. In the end, he left the stretcher that had been brought to him and walked off the field independently. In the locker room, the Barcelona coaching staff decided that Agüero should be taken by ambulance to the Hospital de Barcelona.

There Agüero underwent some cardiological examinations, which showed that he suffers from a heart rhythm disorder. According to El Pais the attacker reacted “calm but concerned” when he was diagnosed by the doctors. It is still unclear what that will mean for Aguero’s football career, who is sidelined at least for the time being.

It was Aguero’s fifth game in the Barcelona kit on Saturday night. He made his basic debut last week in the 1-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano and thus appeared at the starting signal for the second time on Saturday. He was eventually replaced by Philippe Coutinho. In the Clásico against Real Madrid (1-2 loss), he scored his first goal as Azulgrana.
