Cristiano Ronaldo has dethroned Lionel Messi on Instagram. Until Friday, the Argentinian’s post with the Paris Saint-Germain shirt in his hands had garnered the most likes ever on a photo of a top athlete, but now the record is in the name of the Portuguese. On Thursday, he posted a photo with his partner Georgina Rodríguez announcing that they are expecting twins. On Saturday evening, the counter in Ronaldo’s Instagram post already reached more than 30 million likes, while Messi collected more than 22 million.
On August 11, Messi posted several photos on the social medium, posing with the PSG shirt. In the same post, he also posted images of his press conference, his reception at the Parc Des Princes and, among other things, added images of his family in the stadium of the Parisians. For more than two and a half months, it was the most liked Instagram post by an athlete ever, until Ronaldo made his revelation about the family expansion.
“Happy to announce that we are expecting twins,” Ronaldo captioned the photo. “Our hearts are full of love, we can’t wait to meet you.” With the post, the Manchester United star had already broken Messi’s record on Friday, and the counter with likes has now risen to over thirty million.
It is also far from the most liked Instagram post ever. That record is held by the world_record_egg page. On January 4, 2019, a photo of an egg was posted as a joke to see if the then record of Kylie Jenner (eighteen million likes) could be broken. Currently, the egg in question has racked up nearly 55.5 million likes on Instagram.
