PSV booked a big win against FC Twente on Saturday evening. Roger Schmidt’s again considerably modified team had a hard time with the Tukkers for a half, but was taken by the hand after the break by Carlos Vinícius, who scored his first two goals for PSV: 5-2. The Eindhoven team narrow the gap to leader Ajax with one more game played to one point, while Twente remains seventh.

Partly due to the many injuries, Schmidt had to change his line-up again and had basic places in store for Jordan Teze and Armando Obispo, among others. Mario Götze was not part of the match selection, while Davy Pröpper came in after more than an hour and started a brotherly dispute with FC Twente defender Robin Pröpper. Virgil Misidjan could have scored on behalf of the visitors already in the fourth minute, after PSV defender André Ramalho slipped away with the ball at his foot. Joël Drommel, however, saved Misidjan’s effort.

It did go wrong for PSV in the thirteenth minute, when Vlap escaped the defense on the left side of the field, dribbled into the penalty area and found the far corner: 0-1. PSV put things in order a minute later via Vertessen, who received the ball to the right of the goal and blasted hard into the far corner: 1-1. A nice attack led to another goal for PSV after half an hour. Vertessen set Teze free on the right wing, who gave Eran Zahavi a punch with a low cross: 2-1.

After PSV captain Marco van Ginkel had missed a good header opportunity, Twente was level again just before half-time. That was thanks to Ramiz Zerrouki, who wonderfully brushed the ball into the intersection from outside the penalty area: 2-2. It gave PSV reason to start immediately at the start of the second half. That also yielded results, because within twenty minutes the Eindhoven team extended their lead to no less than 5-2.

In the 54th minute, Carlos Vinícius was unable to work the ball over the goal line from close range, but Vertessen found it a breeze in the rebound: 3-2. Four minutes later, Vinicius was relieved to score his first goal for PSV by tapping in the rebound after Zahavi’s deflected shot. Vinícius immediately closed the game in the 63rd minute, by passing goalkeeper Jeffrey de Lange who had come a long way and blasted the ball into the empty goal: 5-2. PSV substitute Maximiliano Romero hit the post in the final phase.
