Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland may not return to action until 2022. The Norwegian striker suffered a hip injury in the 4-0 loss against Ajax. Last week, trainer Marco Rose expressed the expectation that Haaland will be sidelined for several weeks, but the attacker may have already played his last game this calendar year.

Haaland did not come out of the battle with Ajax unscathed. Due to his injury, he will not only miss the second confrontation with the team from Amsterdam in the Champions League on Wednesday, November 3, but also the international match between the Netherlands and Norway on Tuesday, November 16. Federal doctor Ola Sand of Norway told last week TV2 that Haaland needs three to four weeks to recover. Now it seems that the striker will be offside for even longer, reports BILD.

The German daily refers to a statement by Jan Aage Fjörtoft on Norwegian television. “The duel with Ajax may have been his last game of this year,” said the former striker of Eintracht Frankfurt and also a friend of the Haaland family. Borussia Dortmund has not released any information about the seriousness of Haaland’s injury. Rose also said little about it: “I’m not a doctor. I don’t want to speculate there,” he said at a press conference.

It is the second time in a short time that Dortmund has had to do without Haaland. A muscle injury has already sidelined him in games against Borussia Mönchengladbach (1-0 loss on September 25), Sporting Portugal (1-0 win on September 28) and FC Augsburg (2-1 win on October 2). In addition, he missed Norway’s World Cup qualifiers against Turkey (1-1 on October 8) and Montenegro (2-0 win on October 11). “Time to focus on my recovery. I will come back stronger!”, Haaland responded to his injury in a social media post last week.
