Feyenoord narrowly won the away game against SC Cambuur on Sunday afternoon. Arne Slot’s team won 2-3 in Friesland and therefore takes fourth place in the Eredivisie. Tyrell Malacia beautifully scored the winning goal. It was a welcome victory for Feyenoord, after the 2-1 defeat at Vitesse and the 2-2 draw against RKC Waalwijk. The Rotterdammers have collected nineteen points; FC Utrecht is in third place with twenty points and one game more played. Cambuur suffers the third defeat in a row and is in eleventh place.

Slot preferred Fredrik Aursnes in Leeuwarden, who kept Alireza Jahanbakhsh on the reserve bench. It was the home team that started the game better and had to take the lead within five minutes of play. Justin Bijlow, however, managed to save twice on a bet from Erik Schouten from close range. On behalf of Feyenoord, Aursnes shot just wide. Both teams were clearly searching in the first quarter of the game, after which Cambuur took the brutal lead halfway through the first half.

A razor sharp counter brought the ball through Issa Kallon to David Sambissa, after which the latter completed in a controlled manner. However, the home team could not enjoy the lead for a very long time, as Bryan Linssen quickly equalized the score. On a pass from Marcus Pedersen, the striker headed well behind goalkeeper Sonny Stevens. It was the attacker’s fifteenth header since the start of the 2018-19 season, scoring two more than anyone else in the Eredivisie. On the stroke of half-time, Feyenoord took the lead for the first time, when Aursnes found the left corner on a pass from Guus Til: 1-2.

As well as Feyenoord finished the first half, the start of the second was so disappointing. Again Sambissa was the end station of a counterattack by the home team. Tom Boere won a header against Marcos Senesi in midfield and served Jamie Jacobs, who in turn launched Sambissa. Face to face with goalkeeper Bijlow, the Frenchman remained calm: 2-2. He became the first Cambuur player in this century to score twice in a match against a club from the traditional top three.

An unhindered Boere missed a good chance at the 3-2, because he rushed around the penalty spot after Jacobs’ preparatory work, after which Feyenoord took the lead again. The goal came from Tyrell Malacia, who has scored just three goals in 103 previous official appearances for Feyenoord. The left back was allowed to steam up in Cambuur’s half and shot diagonally from the edge of the penalty area. Orkun Kökçü missed a good shooting opportunity halfway through the second half. Feyenoord players were on their last legs in the final phase, but nevertheless kept the lead without too many problems. Linssen failed to make the 2-4 in a counterattack, when he shot far wide of Cambuur’s empty goal after goalkeeper Stevens came along with a corner.
