‘If you are just proud of your club’

A tweet from Jan Smit in which he shares his pride about FC Volendam’s leading position in the Kitchen Champion Division has generated a lot of negative and hateful reactions. The singer and board member of FC Volendam shares a selection of the reactions to his tweet. “And this is why I love Twitter and all the beauty that the Netherlands has to offer! If you’re just proud of your football club… Great!” Smit writes on Twitter.

FC Volendam won the match it still owed on Monday evening with 1-0 from NAC Breda and as a result took over the lead in the Kitchen Champion Division from Excelsior, which now has two points less. “Who is at the top!?!”, tweeted Smit on Monday evening. The tweet caused quite a stir, because Smit received countless negative reactions.

For example, it is stated in the reactions that FC Volendam is still good ‘as long as points continue to be deducted to ADO Den Haag’. “I can’t help the fact that they don’t have their finances in order at ADO, can you. The rules are clear”, responds Smit. He then also shares a selection of the reactions to his tweet on Wednesday morning: ‘It should be sniffed’, ‘FC Wilders’ and ‘You can see that yourself, don’t you? Backward eel’.

“And this is why I love Twitter and all the beauty that the Netherlands has to offer! If you’re just proud of your football club… Great!”, writes Smit as an accompanying text. Presenter Luuk Ikink responds with a wink that ‘it is not the intention that you are proud of something’. Smith: “Exactly. I really need to stop doing that.”
