The Barcelona board thinks it can generate a significant amount of revenue from the Espai Barça project. According to the Spanish 2Playbook the Catalans are aiming for 200 million euros in revenues from the intended renovation of the Camp Nou and the surrounding accommodations.

According to new calculations, the ambitious project, for which the club has to borrow 1.5 billion euros, will yield 48 million euros in new sponsorship agreements. The club also thinks it can collect the same amount by building new VIP seats in the now outdated stadium. Income from entrance fees (44 million euros) and the organization of events and museum visits should ultimately bring in 60 million euros.

Hopes with the income Barcelona repay the astronomical loan within 35 years. The loan is reportedly being re-issued by Goldman Sachs. The American bank already guaranteed a loan of 525 million euros in June to continue to pay the salaries of the players.

The project team, led by General Manager Ferran Reverter, recently overhauled the business plan for the renovation, with the aim of creating more space for hospitality and business venues. As a result, the Catalan club has to renegotiate with the city council. With these revised plans, Barcelona expects to reopen the renovated Camp Nou in 2025, the Palau Blaugrana indoor sports complex a year later and the intended commercial area in 2027.

On Saturday, during the general members’ meeting, a vote will be taken on the financing of Espai Barça. If Barcelona’s plans to borrow 1.5 billion euros are approved there, a referendum will follow in which the club’s socios can express themselves on the project.
