Feyenoord had a disappointing evening against RKC Waalwijk on Saturday. Arne Slot’s team did not go further than a 2-2 draw and thus failed to take third place. There were many positive words about Jens Toornstra’s opening goal afterwards. After more than half an hour of play, the Feyenoorde midfielder tricked a number of RKC players to sign for the 1-0 in a nice way.

“That goal by Toornstra, that is really an indoor football goal,” says Hans Kraay Jr. at Good morning Eredivisie. “He does that so consciously. I have not seen this very often. You actually laugh at the keeper.” Khalid Sinouh was also lyrical about the goal of the Feyenoord player. “You see this with Real Madrid players, that they do this,” said the former goalkeeper. “Just with the inside. But you also have to be a bit lucky now and then, he only just goes past two legs. He is often blocked.”

Feyenoord nevertheless failed to make a fist against RKC. The team from Rotterdam missed an important link in the vanguard with Luis Sinisterra. The Colombian’s place, who was missing due to international obligations, was taken by the unfortunate Cyriel Dessers. “RKC went back quite far and then you need creativity”, Kees Kwakman believes. “That applies to every team, but certainly to Feyenoord. Sinisterra is perhaps the most creative man in the front, especially in the small space. He can play a man out and you miss that. Dessers has had three hundred percent chances.”

According to Kraay Jr., it is a great development that clubs in the Eredivisie are increasingly playing to the possibilities, as RKC did on Saturday when visiting Feyenoord. “Isn’t it a great development that Sparta under Henk Fraser shows up against PSV with the knife between its teeth? And how RKC did yesterday? We all want that, don’t we? We all think the Eredivisie is a paradise for attackers, but I think it’s a good trend,” concludes the analyst.
