Erling Braut Haaland will probably be fit enough on Tuesday evening to make playing minutes in the Champions League match with Ajax. The Borussia Dortmund striker has been struggling with a thigh injury in recent weeks, but will make his return on Saturday afternoon against FSV Mainz 05. Trainer Marco Rose has immediately given the Norwegian goalscoring machine a base place on his return.

Due to the thigh injury, Haaland missed four matches against Dortmund and was also missing from the Norwegian national team during the last international match. For a long time it was questionable whether the striker would make it to Ajax in the Champions League, but with the base place against Mainz, the team from Amsterdam know that they can prepare for a meeting with Haaland. The Norwegian will form a vanguard on Saturday afternoon from 3:30 pm with Donyell Malen and Marco Reus.

Before his injury, Haaland was accurate in eight official games for Dortmund, where Manuel Akanji also ‘just’ starts in the base. The central defender annex Swiss international did not come out of the international match completely unscathed, Dortmund’s infirmary is currently empty. Sky Deutschland reported on Wednesday that thirteen players were still working on their recovery from various injuries at the time.

Thomas Meunier, Mats Hummels, Emre Can and Gregor Kobel play against Mainz and will therefore also be available against Ajax. The league match comes too early for Mahmoud Dahoud, Mateu Morey, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Soumaila Coulibaly, Raphaël Guerreiro and Youssoufa Moukoko. Morey and Moukoko are certainly not there against Ajax either.
