Adrie Koster will start at Ajax as an advisor to the Supervisory Board (RvC), the club announced in a press release on Friday afternoon. The former coach of the team from Amsterdam thus fills the vacant position of Danny Blind, who had to take a step back due to his work as assistant national coach with the Dutch national team. Blind will therefore not be reappointed at the next General Meeting of Shareholders.

Koster will mainly deal with the advice in the field of football technical matters at Ajax, Ajax says. His new position means for Koster a return to the club where he worked as a trainer between 2007 and 2009. The former international was responsible for both the A-selection and Young Ajax. Most recently, he was at the helm of Willem II, where he was fired in January of this year due to disappointing results. Zeljko Petrovic then took over and secured enforcement in the Eredivisie.

Leen Meijaard indicates that Koster’s appointment is temporary. “We intend to nominate Danny again as a commissioner as soon as he has completed his task at the KNVB next year,” said the chairman of the commissioner. “But in order to be able to properly perform our role as supervisor of Ajax, we would like to have someone on the Supervisory Board in the intervening period with a lot of experience in professional football and someone who also knows the club. Adrie Koster fits perfectly into that profile and we are I’m glad he’s willing to take on this job.”

Koster himself is also pleased with the appointment. “I think it’s an honor that they asked me for this,” said Koster. “Of course I have worked here and it is no secret that I have always had a thing for Ajax. It is interesting for me to be involved in the club from this side and I will do my best to make a good contribution. “I have already been to the Toekomst and the Johan Cruijff ArenA for weeks and have already had a number of conversations. Several agreements have already been made for the coming weeks. I am very much looking forward to this new collaboration.”
