AZ suffered a net loss of eight tons in the past season. The Alkmaar Eredivisie club reports this in its annual accounts. A year earlier, AZ still achieved a net profit of 5.6 million euros. The club, which will play in the Conference League this season, estimates that the direct loss of turnover in 2020/21 due to corona will be more than twelve million euros.

“This sharp drop is mainly due to the fact that almost the entire season was played without supporters and sponsors due to corona. Due to the measures, the revenue from catering and events was also virtually nil,” AZ reports via the official channels.

The net result is deducted from the other reserves. AZ’s equity capital was 38 million euros on June 30 of this year. AZ sold after that date Myron Boadu (AS Monaco), Calvin Stengs (OGC Nice), Marco Bizot (Stade Brest) and Teun Koopmeiners (Atalanta). In total, AZ earned 8.2 million euros with transfers, while 6.2 million was spent: a net result of 2 million.

The transfers are not included in the result and will only be processed in the 2021/22 financial year. “AZ expects to close the 2021/22 season with a positive result due to the smaller impact due to corona, placement for the group stage of the Conference League as well as transfers already realized,” said the North Holland club. “Thanks to the financial results of recent years, AZ has built up a buffer and AZ looks to the future with confidence.”

Ajax also presented the annual figures this week. Partly due to the corona crisis, the people of Amsterdam suffered a net loss of more than eight million euros.
