Quinten Timber thinks his brother Jurriën is a top player and would suit Barcelona. That is what the FC Utrecht midfielder says on Saturday in the General Newspaper in response to the statement: ‘Jurriën is a typical Barcelona defender’. However, the FC Utrecht midfielder thinks that Barcelona is not the only top club his brother could join.

Jurriën and Quinten Timber will face each other for the first time on Sunday afternoon at 2.30 pm when Ajax and FC Utrecht cross swords in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. In the run-up to the competition match, the newspaper spoke with the twin brothers and the two were presented with a number of propositions. Quinten responds to the statement in question: “Hard to say, in what way? He is a footballing defender, but that is also possible at Real Madrid. I think he is a top player, so in that sense he would definitely fit at Barcelona. He wants to reach the top and it doesn’t matter where that is. The Spanish league is beautiful, so is Barça, he certainly thinks that.”

“I’ve been hearing this more often lately”, the Ajax defender himself responds to the statement. “I think that is mainly because Ajax plays a bit like Barcelona. Good on the ball, high and able to defend with space in the back. That is something that both clubs ask of defenders. Barcelona is a beautiful club. You don’t say no to that. But there are more clubs like that. But for the time being I’m fine here at Ajax,” said the twenty-year-old mandekker, who has driven Perr Schuurs from the base and has been a regular name in the selection of the Dutch national team since last summer.

“Incomprehensible that Feyenoord did not strike when he did not sign with Ajax”

The Timber brothers still sleep together in the attic, even the night before the meeting between Ajax and FC Utrecht. “Yes, that is also part of the preparation. That is precisely what is special about that day,” said the Ajax player. “First you sleep in each other’s room and then you stand opposite each other in the ArenA. It is also special that I drive directly to Amsterdam and he via the Galgenwaard.” The FC Utrecht midfielder thinks it is ‘normal, but also funny’ that the two share a bedroom and then face each other on the field. “I’m not going to keep him awake, just stay sporty. Maybe I’m playing a joke, but not too crazy.”
