Dusan Tadic was named UEFA’s Player of the Match after the duel between Ajax and Besiktas (2-0). Wesley Sneijder says in the studio of RTL7 little understanding of that choice. If it is up to the former midfielder, it was not Tadic, but Steven Berghuis that was chosen as the best player of the match.

“I didn’t see that coming. You would rather say Berghuis, he had a goal and an assist. If you have to choose one, then Berghuis. But yes, strange. I don’t know who chooses that. We don’t, in any case,” says Sneijder after he hears that Tadic has been chosen as Player of the Match. So-called technical observers determine who may receive this award, in the form of a trophy, after each Champions League match.

Tadic provided an assist for Berghuis during the duel with Besiktas. “We should have made it 3-0 faster, then it would have been easier. That didn’t happen, but the good thing is we kept zero. We are happy with the win”, Tadic himself analyzes in front of the camera of RTL7. The captain of Ajax himself missed a huge opportunity to score in the first half.

“Unbelievable, I don’t know what happened there. I have yet to see the situation again,” Tadic says about that moment. Finally, the Serbian attacker is asked if he is happy with his election as Player of the Match. “I always say: the most important thing is that we win. It’s great to play for this club and these fans.”

Rafael van der Vaart is with Ziggo Sports to speak about Tadic’s performance. “He could have had five assists if Haller had had his sights on sharp,” says Van der Vaart. Presenter Bas van Veenendaal thought Tadic was the least attacker at Ajax and wonders why he was not substituted in the second half. Ajax coach Erik ten Hag took Antony and Steven Berghuis to the side for David Neres and Davy Klaassen. “No, first of all, Tadic is the man and the captain,” Ten Hag replies. “He just played a good game. That opportunity is in your head and it is in me too, he has to take it. But that is scoreboard journalism.”
