Xavi Simons gave Paris Saint-Germain Under-19 a point on Tuesday against Manchester City’s peers in the UEFA Youth League. The midfielder, one of the three base customers with one Ligue 1 appearance on his resume, used a penalty in the second half and determined the final score: 1-1. PSG hoped for more as Manchester City received two red cards but failed to win. On Tuesday evening, the A-teams of both teams will compete against each other.

The French started two weeks ago with a 2-2 draw at Club Brugge, while Manchester City previously won 5-1 against RB Leipzig. Simons was the only Dutchman at PSG, but in the person of Mikki van Sas, Manchester City did have a Dutch reserve keeper. After Simons’ preparatory work, Daouda Weidmann was close to the opening goal early in the match. The midfielder hit the post shortly after Tai Sodje had also missed a good chance on the other side. After half an hour, Shea Charles made it 0-1. The visitors’ midfielder received the ball on the edge of the penalty area and sought out the corner with great precision.

Simons became a bit frustrated in the closing phase of the first half and was shown a yellow card for a rash tackle. After the break, the situation became more rosy for PSG. Djeidi Gassama was served by Simons and was knocked down in the penalty area by Finley Burns, who received a direct red card. Simons placed the subsequent penalty in the right corner. The visitors had to go through with nine men twelve minutes before time, as Charles received his second yellow card for a foul on Simons, but with a 4-4-0 formation, Manchester City held out in the final minutes of the game.
