Steven Nzonzi leaves AS Roma immediately for Al-Rayyan. The midfielder comes transfer-free from AS Roma, where he played no significant role under coach Jose Mourinho. The twenty-time French international will play in Qatar under coach Laurent Blanc, who also received Colombian international James Rodriguez last week.

The 32-year-old Nzonzi has been under contract with AS Roma since the summer of 2018, but has never made it there. The purchase of more than 26 million euros was leased to Galatasaray and Stade Rennais, before returning to Rome last summer. Under Mourinho, he has not played for a minute this season. His contract at the Stadio Olimpico ran for another year, but Roma have nevertheless decided to let him go on a free transfer.

In Qatar, Nzonzi becomes a teammate of James Rodriguez. The Colombian midfielder had been sidetracked at Everton under manager Rafael Benitez and opted to leave Europe last week. According to English media, the ex-player of AS Monaco and Real Madrid in Qatar earns an annual salary of no less than twelve million euros. It is not yet known what Nzonzi will earn.

Nzonzi, winner of the 2018 World Cup with the national team of France, played in the youth of Paris Saint-Germain and Caan, among others, and broke through at Amiens. He came to Sevilla in 2015 via Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City. He made his name in Spain and won the Europa League in 2016.
