Young Ajax booked its fourth win of the season on Monday evening. With goals from Danilo (twice) and Naci Ünüvar, the Amsterdam promises defeated MVV Maastricht 3-1. With the win, Young Ajax takes over tenth place in the Kitchen Champion Division from the Limburgers, who also have twelve points and a worse goal difference after eight matches.

Young Ajax took on MVV in a relatively strong line-up, because Devyne Rensch – who made his debut for the the Dutch at the beginning of this month and participated with the first team as a substitute against Sporting Portugal in the Champions League last week – and Danilo were at the kick-off. Despite the fact that the home team had the initiative in the initial phase, the first opportunities were for MVV. Goalkeeper Charlie Setford, however, kept Jong Ajax going: he made a good save on a bet by Mart Remans and saved a penalty from Sven Blummel, which was awarded after Rensch’s foul on Remans.

Ten minutes later, the ball went to the other side of the dot, when Victor Jensen was pushed to the ground by Leroy Labylle. Danilo made no mistake from eleven meters and gave Jong Ajax the lead with 33 minutes on the clock. On the stroke of half-time, the team from Amsterdam doubled the margin. This time Danilo acted as principal and he brought in Ünüvar, who promoted the fine attack to goal. Young Ajax coach John Heitinga took Rensch to the side halfway through for Liam van Gelderen and saw his team finally decide the game after an hour of play.

Danilo was put face to face with goalkeeper Thijmen Nijhuis and convincingly shot his second goal of the evening against the ropes. Without Danilo – who was taken aside in favor of top scorer Max de Waal – Young Ajax failed to increase the score even further in the final phase, despite opportunities for Christian Rasmussen and Ünüvar, among others. Fumbling in the Amsterdam defense led to the honorary goal well into injury time, which was scored by substitute Orhan Džepar. An away match against Helmond Sport awaits for Young Ajax next Friday, while MVV will then receive a visit from ADO Den Haag.
