FC Twente secured three points in the Eredivisie at the expense of sc Heerenveen on Sunday afternoon. In the Abe Lenstra Stadium, the team of trainer Ron Jans already enjoyed a 0-2 lead at halftime, which was retained in the second company: 2-3. Hits by Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Daan Rots and an own goal by Sven van Beek led to the victory of the Tukkers. Van Beek’s own goal was his eighth in his career, sharpening his negative record. Tibor Halilovic and Henk Veerman did something in return on behalf of the home team. Twente occupies sixth place in the ranking with thirteen points, while the Frisians have to make do with eighth place thanks to the defeat.

Heerenveen started with the same eleven names as against Feyenoord (3-1), earlier this week. Jans had made his way on the away team for Luca Everink, who made his basic debut. The Tukkers took the lead early in Heerenveen. Ibrahim Dresevic planted his elbow in Van Wolfswinkel’s face during a corner, after which referee Jeroen Manschot had no choice but to put the ball on the spot after intervention by the VAR. The attacker took the penalty himself and did not fail eye to eye with Erwin Mulder. Van Wolfswinkel thus already registered for his fourth goal of the season.

After more than ten minutes of play, Rots had the perfect opportunity to quickly put FC Twente at 2-0. The wing attacker was released in the box, but then shot straight at Mulder. Jans’ team had the better of the game in the first half and seemed to express this further in the score after half an hour of play. Ramiz Zerrouki gave Mulder the check by striking a well-placed shot from twenty meters in through the bottom of the crossbar. However, the VAR threw a spanner in the works. Earlier in the attack, Dimitrios Limnios was offside.

Just before half time, the visitors took a comfortable lead. A much too risky pass by Milan van Ewijk to Mulder was intercepted by Rots, who was then able to push the ball into the empty goal: 0-2. After Siem de Jong’s injury, Jansen had to deal with another setback at halftime. Mulder was not fit enough to continue and was replaced on goal by Xavier Mous. Even in the first minutes of the second company, the Frisians made little claim to the connecting goal.

FC Twente received the first two goals from the home team and that was also the case with the 0-3 after 65 minutes. Van Beek sharpened his own goal record after a wrong pass on Mous. It was his eighth own goal of his career for the defender. The Tukkers seemed to be on their way to a certain victory, but Tibor Halilovic immediately did something back on behalf of the home team. A shot from the attacker was deflected by Robin Pröpper: 1-3. Ten minutes before the end Henk Veerman brought the tension all the way back to the Abe Lenstra Stadium. The striker was custom-served by Halilovic and shot his first best chance impeccably: 2-3. A Frisian final offensive seemed in the making, but Jansen’s team was no longer able to create real great opportunities.
