PSV suffered its second league defeat of the season on Saturday visiting Willem II. This was due to a blunder by Joël Drommel. The PSV goalkeeper was unable to stop an apparently easy shot by Ché Nunnely and saw the ball fall in clumsily. In the first half, Eran Zahavi had made up for his unfortunate own goal with a striking header: 2-1 for Willem II. As a result, the stunting Tilburgers climb over PSV to second place.

At PSV, Ibrahim Sangaré and Mario Götze returned to the base after injuries, while Marco van Ginkel was preferred over Davy Pröpper. In the absence of Noni Madueke, Ritsu Doan started as a right striker. Fred Grim decided at Willem II to throw the young Vincent Schippers in right back position for the lions, where Godfried Roemeratoe still played against RKC Waalwijk (1-1).

Willem II came under great pressure from the start signal. A cross from Doan passed everyone, after which Cody Gakpo picked up the ball and hit Timon Wellenreuther hard. Philipp Max hit the ball badly on an attempt from about sixteen yards, while Zahavi headed straight at Wellenreuther in enormous freedom. On the other side of the field, the PSV striker then scored an own goal by extending a free kick by Gorkem Saglam unluckily with the head towards the intersection: 1-0.

PSV kept looking for the attack and got new chances for a goal. Zahavi came just too late to slip in a hard cross from Max, but was in time a few minutes later to head in a high cross from the left back: 1-1. Zahavi collided hard with Derrick Köhn, but was eventually able to continue the match. Sangaré could have put PSV ahead before the break, but was unable to send the ball to the goal with his thigh.

In the second half, Gakpo tried with a shot that bounced and went just wide. Van Ginkel thought he could head in a corner from Gakpo after an hour of play, but Wellenreuther prevented that with an unparalleled reflex on the goal line. Then Max tried it by coming in from the left and aiming just wide with the right. Willem II hardly had anything to contribute offensively, but still managed to score. A shot from Ché Nunnely seemed easy enough for Drommel, who let the ball slip out of his hands and made a big mistake: 2-1. PSV went looking for a result and substitute Carlos Vinícius served other newcomer Maximiliano Romero, who shot one-on-one at Wellenreuther.
