PSV is leading 0-1 at halftime against Go Ahead Eagles, but Marciano Vink is not yet impressed by Roger Schmidt’s team. In particular, Vink thinks the midfield of the Eindhoven residents is out of place. There Marco van Ginkel and Ryan Thomas play as controlling players, while Ritsu Doan replaces the injured Mario Götze on ten.

“Go Ahead has the better of the game, I just don’t see a combination at PSV,” says Vink at ESPN. “There are times when the organization is just completely gone. Go Ahead actually plays through it relatively easily, if they also make better choices at the end… It just isn’t right at PSV in midfield. I think Thomas has to pulling the cart, because Van Ginkel won’t do it. Can’t do it, won’t do it, I don’t know. It looks very vulnerable.”

“Then it comes from Thomas and he plays in a position where he normally doesn’t really play football,” continues Vink. “I think he’s more used to filling in at ten. Doan should bring it, he doesn’t either. So you have a three-man midfield… it’s just loose sand. But it’s not all about it. Thomas, I just want to make that clear.”

Pierre van Hooijdonk, who is also present as an analyst, praises Cody Gakpo for his goal in the first half. “A fantastic goal,” said Van Hooijdonk. “Ball on the outside of the foot is also very nice from Zahavi, but it is mainly in the speed of action: one tap with his right and boom with his right. No, you can’t actually defend this, it goes so fast. And the finish in the crossing.”
