Johannes Spors is under fire at Vitesse, writes the Gelderlander. The supporters denounce the policy of the technical director. Dissatisfaction is emerging now that the main force is performing below expectations. The regional daily writes that the purchases are disappointing, Spors has not collected any transfer money and the contracts of the most important players expire after this season. Moreover, Spors failed to attract Lars Unnerstall, Robin Pröpper and Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Spors was able to pick up the keeper, defender and striker transfer-free during the past transfer period. The 39-year-old technical director let the chance of Unnerstall run, renounced Pröpper and thought Van Wolfswinkel was too old. The trio now has a permanent base at FC Twente and played an important role in last Sunday’s 1-4 victory over Vitesse: Pröpper scored twice, Van Wolfswinkel once.

In the past transfer period, the technical director kept strongholds such as Riechedly Bazoer, Oussama Tanane and Danilho Doekhi at home, but the threesome have an expiring contract and can therefore leave Vitesse after this season without transfer. Spors brought Markus Schubert (Schalke 04), Toni Domgjoni (FC Zurich), Julian von Moos (FC Basel), Romaric Yapi (Brighton & Hove Albion) and Nikolai Baden Frederiksen (Juventus) to Arnhem, while he brought Jacob Rasmussen, Loïs Openda and Yann Gboho rented.

Where Vitesse made an impression last season under trainer Thomas Letsch, it can now be found in the right-hand row. With six points from five games, the Arnhem team are in eleventh place. However, the gap with number three sc Heerenveen is only four points. Despite the disappointing performance, Letsch’s team managed to qualify for the group stage of the Conference League. In the third club tournament in Europe, NS Mura was defeated 0-1 last Thursday.

The Gelderlander writes about a lack of creativity and individual class at Vitesse. According to the newspaper, Spors should take that into account. “The ‘td’ is in his final year. Last season, the Arnhem club was able to rely on the qualities in a selection, which was largely composed by Mohammed Allach and Marc van Hintum. The German has now selected through,” it sounds like. What Spor’s policy is really worth, according to the newspaper, will gradually become clear this season.
