Ajax has its next monster score in the Eredivisie on Saturday evening. After NEC and Vitesse had already been treated to a major defeat, SC Cambuur got off even worse: 9-0. Steven Berghuis scored his first league goal for Ajax, while substitute Mohamed Daramy recorded his very first goal in Amsterdam’s service. Ajax climbs to the top position, which can be taken over by PSV on Sunday by beating Feyenoord. Cambuur is ninth.

At Ajax Nicolás Tagliafico and David Neres got a chance in the base instead of Daley Blind and Antony, while Cambuur took office with the same line-up as last week against Go Ahead Eagles (5-2 win). In the first fifteen minutes, Cambuur felt the pressure from Ajax, without creating any real opportunities. The Frisians themselves clearly got space in the counter, but Issa Kallon handled the great freedom that Noussair Mazraoui gave him by not running along.

In the sixteenth minute, Jurriën Timber intercepted the ball from Alex Bangura, and then continued on and entered into a combination with Steven Berghuis. Timber completed it himself in the penalty area by looking for the far corner: 1-0. Three minutes later, Berghuis finished it himself by shooting in a low cross from Dusan Tadic: 2-0. Ten minutes later Berghuis saw his low cross bounce off Calvin Mac-Intosch and end up at Mazraoui’s feet. He accepted and shot the ball through the body of Mac-Intosch again: 3-0.

Just before half time, Ajax scored 4-0, when Neres shot in a cross from Tadic’s left half volley and through the bottom of the bar. Berghuis should have scored again in the second half, but Ajax’s number ten hit the ball badly three meters in front of the goal and shot over. After an hour of play, Cambuur goalkeeper Sonny Stevens only managed to tap a pass from Neres halfway, after which Tadic shot the ball through Stevens’ hand again: 5-0.

Then Daramy made his entrance instead of Tadic, who saw the newcomer from Ajax score within four minutes. Daramy intercepted the ball himself in the build-up and got it back from Kenneth Taylor over the left side of the penalty area. The Dane was able to pick the far corner: 6-0. It was 7-0 soon after, when Lisandro Martínez picked up a deflected free kick and shot low towards the goal. Haller reacted alertly and handily extended the ball with his heel: 7-0. The 8-0 came from Danilo’s foot, who had relieved Haller and was able to tap in a low cross from Neres. At 9-0, the roles were exactly reversed. Daramy steamed up the left side and tapped the ball from the back line to Neres, who finished it off. Ajax went looking for the tenth, but hit the post in injury time via Gravenberch.
