Johan Derksen stated on Thursday evening during the PSV – Real Sociedad break that Joël Drommel ‘definitely won’t take points’ for his team, but the keeper managed to distinguish himself in injury time. When Mikel Oyarzabal was able to charge towards Drommel after a wrong header by Olivier Boscagli, the keeper stopped and made a save. Nevertheless, Derksen does not want to retract his statement.

“Our commentator (Wytse van der Goot, ed.) described the last rescue as a world rescue. But the striker hits the ball against Drommel”, Derksen judges, when Wilfred Genee points out his earlier statement. If the presenter indicates that Drommel ‘stayed well’, Derksen is not convinced. “He stopped. A striker of this level has to put this ball in, right?” Wim Kieft acknowledges that the goalkeeper reacted well to the situation. “He was quick.” Also in the studio of ESPN sounds more praise for Drommel. “Excellent goalkeeping by Drommel, who really stood up straight like a handball goalkeeper and left the choice to Mikel Oyarzabal,” says Arnold Bruggink.

Derksen is positive about Mario Götze’s performance. The attacking midfielder opened the score and prepared PSV’s second goal with a nice action. “We have seen some very nice things from him. I think it’s all a bit non-committal, it’s not a real winner, but he is a fine football player,” says Derksen. “I think it’s a bit of a young lady game. There’s a lot at stake, huh. Then you’ll have to play around with it for a while.” Kieft would have liked to see ‘a football player’ like Davy Pröpper next to Götze. “I think that’s a really good football player. Something happens when he’s at the ball,” responds Derksen. “But Roger Schmidt does have a lot of love for Marco van Ginkel. He is a bit of a straight-forward football player. If I can choose, I always go for Pröpper.”
